Baby weight and muffin tops.
I get many comments about my body weight because I recently had a baby but I have not gained that much weight. If anything, I am smaller than what I was before I had my son. I know this sounds flattering, but the thing is, the reason I am smaller is because I am not that healthy.
It’s actually quite difficult for me to breastfeed and consume enough calories in a day to support my sons needs as well as my own. I know, I know. How hard can it possibly be to consume enough calories! Cake! I love cake. Cake, junk food, extra sour cream with those nachos… one meal of that stuff and it’s through the roof on calorie intake. However, the problem is that I have to be healthy. I’m making a very conscious effort to eat fresh foods because you get more vitamins from freshly good foods rather than processed foods. This task can really kick my ass however, because I also have to be able to find time to cook things.
I loose a lot of calories breastfeeding and I’m not necessarily gaining it back. This also effects my milk supply. Sometimes my son fusses at my breast because I’m just not eating enough! It can be really stressful.
I’ve tried to think of ways around this, and one thing I thought of was just making tons of soup. My boyfriend will buy tons of meat and vegetables. All I have to do is throw it in a pot and boil it with some sea salt. Then I get my liquids. I’ve also resorted to buying Floradix vitamins which uses real food. It’s still processed so it’s not as good as eating fresh food, but I figure something is better than nothing.
I want to tell mothers out there who cannot find the time to consume enough calories that I feel you wholeheartedly. But kudos to you for breastfeeding because it really is best for baby.
