Parsons me, but what should I wear?
Coming down the runway during the recent Parsons Benefit and Fashion show, we saw high necks and low cowl necks. The hues of the night were browns, cremes, and black. I spoke with a friend of mine in the fashion industry about all the black we are seeing. “There’s lots of black when the economy isn’t doing well,” she informed.
We were delighted to find out that our colleague, Amira Marion, had her line backed by an investor! Her designs are quirky and almost whimsical, definitely playful and fun. She has creative use of patterns and prints. What is especially impressive about this fresh and young designer is that she is able to use her own name on her designs.
About Parsons from their website: “At Parsons, students confront the challenges of the real world of the fashion industry while cultivating their own personal vision. Through courses in concept development, studio methods, fashion drawing, and fashion digital studio, students take part in each stage of the design process. They learn to solve problems for a range of markets. And through the Designer Critic Program and the annual Fashion Show, they interact with a diverse cross-section of industry professionals.”
I love all aspects of fashion. Clothing, colors, accessories, jewelry… I love ensembles and individual pieces. I am so impressed with students who attend Parsons and the work they are immersed in. It takes incredible talent to put together a line and see it through from conception to finish.
